I'll take a look at Gladwell's book. I've experienced many a dinner conversation throughout which someone tries to explain the point of the book to me. After all of these, I still have no idea what... Continue

Rod, as always you make some very solid points. I like how both you and Gray concisely explain Obama's online support, which translates into real votes, in comparison to candidates like Dean and Pa... Continue

Gray, your response is what I should read when I experience any bouts of disillusionment for the internet, its potential, and for Weoped amidst it all. I particularly liked the distinction you make... Continue

On Election Day, back in '06, with my car packed full of my wordly possessions, I set out on a seven day drive, from Los Angeles to Boston. I visited friends, met truckers and drug dealers, listened to endless hours of talk radio and audio books, and I brought along a video camera to document it all.

Internet Generation: How Google Will Turn Us Into Search Engines

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together

It may seem an odd setting in which to bemoan the wonders of the internet. And it is a wondrous innovation. Never before have we been so close to vast resources of information. We need only to "Google" a topic and within seconds (Google even tells us how long the search has taken) we can pour over endless lines of digitized text, hyperlinked to ev… Continue

The World, the Media, and US

"War is God's way of teaching Americans geography" - Ambrose Bierce
The media has come under criticism this week for their election coverage. Given the fact that major news outlets and networks cover the 2008 Presidential Election ad naseum, one wonders why there isn't more public scrutiny for not for the quality of this coverage, but for the neglect of other issues and news stor… Continue

Hey Justin,

Thanks for the welcome and compliment. I serve on the editorial board, writing editorials and columns, at the newspaper where I work. So I had a pretty good supply of material to get me started here. Nice site. Well done.

Hey Justin,

Thanks. This site has great potential and it looks like you have a dedicated team. I really hope that the community grows and helps people like me get heard. I will do my best to promote it. I know from experience that it's hard to grow a site that has substance, but it will come through. Cheers!

PS. I've noticed you have blog rush. I've had it before and I was not very satisfied with the results - I have read some pretty negative reviews of it, so if you don't see any success don't be surprised.

Hi Justin:
Florence is part of Northampton. Same government, school system, etc., but a separate ZIP code -- and a famous diner.

You're absolutely right. Just because we're not working in it, doesn't mean we can't enjoy it!

Hey! I'm not sure how you should contact him...is facebook really lame? He did have an email address listed on there. I'm sure his profile is open to everyone, or you could become friends with him and send him a message? You seem to be good at contacting moderately famous people right? Just kidding.

Haven't read the book yet, let me know if it's good. I think I'm in a reading rut.

Until the dissertation itself, I focussed on trans-Atlantic modernism and theory, but when I reached the dissertation, my committee said that no university would hire me right out of school in those areas. They pushed me to go into composition and rhetoric.

It's funny. I entered this professional education because I loved what I did more than I cared about money. Now that I'm almost there, I care so much more about money that I'm willing to abandon what I love for better job opportunities and a few extra bucks.

I thoroughly enjoyed my masters. I focussed on Poe and linguistics. What was the focus of your thesis?
