Yes, I'd Like Some Politics with My Rock and Roll

I'm going to inject some Billy Joel into this debate…because well, he’s a hometown hero (not really). “Goodnight Saigon” has always elicited a visceral, physical reaction whenever I listen to it. E... Continue

I've been to several concerts where lead singers use their microphones for political purposes and two nights of Pearl Jam at Madison Square Garden were no exception. I'm of the school that Rock and... Continue

Post-Nostalgia Nostalgia and You

I willingly admit that I’ve learned as much from all volumes of VH1’s “I Love the 70s,” 80s and 90s as from watching "Behind the Music" over the years. My friend and I frequently recall and quote Michael Ian Black’s droll commentary on historical classics like…Malibu Barbie, shag carpeting, pet rocks or Lonie Anderson and Burt Reynolds. However, VH1’s latest incarnation of the “I Love the…” series is about the decade WE ARE CURRENTLY IN. Of course has its laugh-out-loud funny moments, but nostal… Continue

Words That Make Us Stupid

The more I listen to political debate on TV, the more it becomes painfully obvious that our national vocabulary could use some trimming. Or maybe a lot of trimming. When words cease to have meaning and become blanket descriptions or misrepresentations of ideas that actually do have meaning, it’s time they go, put the kibosh on it. Using these items no longer does anything to advance the debate…for anybody. I’m not actually for outlawing words, but humor me. The following is a list of words or te… Continue

As a Cynic, it’s Hard Being the Most Hopeful One in the Room

I generally tend to think people are full of it and that the country is doomed. Or was doomed. Even within my unwavering support of Barack Obama is contained a seed of cynicism. I begrudgingly accept that Obama had to pander to AIPAC this week, though I completely disagree with it. I know he doesn’t think the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a black and white issue and that Israel is immune from blame regarding the Palestinians. I don’t like Obama’s support of nuclear weapons or his gung h… Continue

Steal This Blog Entry Part II

Before you read this, make sure you've read Steal This Blog Entry Part I

Free Information Part II Radio There's nothing more awesome than blasting progressive talk radio in the car with the windows down. Just kidding. Air America's OK, but since it's the left's answer to Limbaugh, O'Reilly and Hannity, I guess we'll have to deal. I say this even thou…

Steal This Blog Entry - Part I

Because we are intelligent and informed media consumers of the Internet age, think of what follows as a 21st century homage to Abbie Hoffman's tome "Steal This Book;" a rudimentary guide for the millennial Yippie! "What is a Yippie," you ask? In the simplest terms, it is a political hippie. Hoffman, along with Jerry Rubin, satirist Paul Krassner (creator of the nasty nasty Disneyland orgy poster) and other cohorts birthed a movement in 1… Continue

Katie, that is an amazing idea. I'd love to get that guy on here. How would we get in touch with him. Next week, I'll be posting an interview I did over email with the authors of Millennial Makeover, about how our generation is gonna save us all. Would love to get some more authors on here as well. I just bought The Uprising and will crack it open tonight. You read it yet?

Thanks! Glad to be here...maybe it'll force me to come up with something mildly intelligent to say....

However, if that faux-girls gone wild banner pops up one more time i'm going to deactivate my profile. At least pretend to be selling t-shirts or something. It's very discouraging for this site...can you do something about it? Thanks.
