Encounter with a McCain Supporter

My favorite lunch break activity is to head down the street from work to Barnes and Noble. For $1.90 I can get a cup of tea and scan the headlines of all the major magazines. The tables at Barnes and Noble are made to seat two, so this is also a good way to meet new people. I have met models, hedge fund technicians, and German lawyers in this way. Yesterday, I met a McCain supporter. He was short, bald, and reading a book of Shakespeare tragedies. Bu… Continue

Closet Obamaniacs

It struck me recently that the more vehement Obama-haters could actually be closet Obamaniacs. You know, like how the worst gay-bashers are sometimes priests with little kid issues. Or how the people who go on and on about their co-worker's immaturity have growing up to do themselves. Or how the most violent critics of a religious regime tend to have their own religious tenants. Originally posted here I keep thinking of an Austrian Cultural Gathering I went to back in February when full impact of the credit crisis was beginning to hit. It was at a little mid-town bar. People showed up in suits and little dresses, while I had on jeans with a black top. I was practically the only American, and everyone was using their very fluent (Austrian) German. My German is wretched. I murder grammar… Continue

Hey Tara,

Following Razorwire's lead, I checked out some of your poetry as well. Well done. For some reason, it made me think to recommend a book to you. It's called Principles of Uncertainty by Maira Kalman. It's a collection of her paintings, drawing, and photographs with poetry written over them. I recommend it to a lot of people. Hope you like it and keep the poetry flowing.
